I'm Dave, and I've been coaching for over 10 years, playing for nearly 20. Between the ages of 15 and 25 I represented the England Juniors at the European Championships in Bosnia and played National League Division 1 for Leeds and Bristol. My passion is helping develop talent and technique so players see noticeable improvements in their level.
Volleyball has a long history in my family, and I am proud to be continuing that tradition with BVC. I have been playing since the age of 11, playing with Speedwell and then Bristol in the NVL. These days my body is beginning to protest more and more, so my focus is now on coaching. In the past few years I have coached BVC teams to NVL div 2 and 3 titles, and have no plans to stop there. I like to play a fast, creative brand of volleyball, and believe that building a strong team bond is the key to success.
I started playing volleyball in Plymouth in 2011, playing in the EDVA and SW leagues. I'm a grade 3N referee, regularly refereeing NVL matches around the SW as well as some national tournaments. I also do a lot of work with Volleyball England at their major events (London Legacy Cup, NEVZA Tournaments etc).
I remember watching the big girls in school playing volleyball through the window, and I decided I wanted to join them. I have been playing since I was 8 and I have got to play with many professional players in Spain in the 2nd best division, travelling all around the country. I had really good and experienced coaches and played with some amazing Brazilian women that I learnt so much from. When I was 16, volleyball was everything I wanted to do in my life and I qualified as a referee and as a coach, and was a semi-professional player for a couple of years, coach of 4 children and juniors teams, and a referee. I moved to England in 2014 and I have been member of BVC since then as a player, and as Men 2 coach since last year. I have loved volleyball for 18 years and I still feel the same passion for it, which I I hope I can inspire other people with as a coach.
I am currently registered as a Volleyball England Grade 3 (Theory) coach and a Grade 3 (National) referee. I was a founder member of Horfield Volleyball Club in the 1980s which evolved into Bristol Volleyball Club in 1994. I played in the National League Division 3 for BVC. I also coached the Womens' SW League team. I now enjoy coaching the Beginners and Improvers sessions at Cotham School. If you have any questions/comments please feel free to get in touch with the relevant coach directly.
My passion about volleyball began when I was 10 years old. I started playing at my school team and then, step by step, I joined top national junior teams and senior teams from Regional Championships until the Serie B League in Italy. After some years of experience coaching young players in my country, in 2015 I had the great opportunity to become Coach of BVC L1 with a great group of players. My coaching view is: hard work, team spirit and detailed organisation.
